Montauk Yacht Club is a luxury seaside resort & marina spanning 16 acres on Lake Montauk. HISTORY
A Legacy of Luxury and Adventure
For more than nine decades, Montauk Yacht Club has been an integral fixture on Star Island, harkening back to 1928 when entrepreneurial urban developer Carl Fisher first opened the property as a private social club on the North Shore of Long Island. Welcoming the New York elite to the East End, the Yacht Club’s inaugural membership included names like Vincent Astor, J.P. Morgan, Edsel Ford, and Harold S. Vanderbilt, and guests like famed aviator Charles Lindbergh, who often flew his seaplane into the harbor to dock at the marina.
In 2022, the property was acquired by Safe Harbor Marinas with the vision of bringing new life into the storied Yacht Club, initiating a new chapter for the historic property. In 2024, Proper Hospitality took leadership over management & operations, introducing its award-winning take on luxury lifestyle hospitality to the Hamptons.
